Vice President Pence neither confirms nor denies whether he thinks that Trump tried to overturn the election while believing that he had lost to Joe Biden.
“The President was convinced by a group of outside lawyers that came into the White House. President Trump was wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. I believe that by God’s grace I did my duty that day. That’s all I know.”
In an interview with New Hampshire Today’s Chris Ryan, former Vice President Pence responds to the charge by the special counsel that President Trump knew that he had lost the election and conspired to defraud the United States; describes his past and present relationship with his former running mate; gives his opinion why Trump goes up in the polls despite all of the indictments; and lists the shortcomings of the Biden Administration.
Vice President Pence maintains that Donald Trump was wrong to force him to overturn the election, but he neither confirms nor denies whether he thinks that his former boss did this while believing that he had lost to Joe Biden.
“The President was convinced by a group of outside lawyers that came into the White House. President Trump was wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. I believe that by God’s grace I did my duty that day. That’s all I know.”
Prior to his being directed to reject or return electoral votes from certain states on January 6th, Vice President Pence describes having a friendly relationship with President Trump.
“President Trump wasn’t just my President. He was my friend. We literally never had a cross word between us for four years. I stood loyally by him until the day came that my oath to the Constitution required me to do otherwise.”
When he was asked to react to the frequent indictments and investigations of his former boss, especially over the last two years, Vice President Pence expressed concerns about the weaponization of the Department of Justice which has caused a distraction from the poor record of the Biden Administration.
Vice President Pence stood with President Trump during the impeachment proceedings and has denounced the raid on the President’s Mar-a-Lago home and the indictment by the Manhattan Grand Jury.
“If I get to be President of the United States, we’re not just getting rid of the Director of the FBI and a new Attorney General. We’re going to clean house on the whole seventh floor of the Justice Department and reestablish public confidence by appointing men and women of integrity.”
The former Vice President believes that the medias obsession with President Trump and his legal predicaments have caused Trump’s poll numbers to rise because many people feel that the DOJ has been weaponized and politicized.
Another factor in President Trump’s rising poll numbers, according to Vice President Pence, would be that the voters are contrasting the Trump/Pence Administration with the Biden/Harris Administration.
“Joe Biden has been a disaster for this country.”
Mike Pence went on to blame inflation of President Biden’s spending policies and to criticize Biden’s immigration and energy programs. In addition, the withdrawal from Afghanistan and Biden’s foreign policy, in general, was blamed for emboldening our enemies.
