With migrants crossing over from Canada and little help from Washington, Governor Sununu promises to beef up the local police along the border.
“If you guys aren’t going to handle this, if they’re coming over in droves, I’m going to make sure that New Hampshire is not a stopping place for these guys.”
In an interview at WGIR with Chris Ryan, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu discusses the relevance of speeches like the State of Union and State of the State Addresses; predicts the topics and goals on tonight’s speech by President Biden; talks about healthcare reform and capping drug costs; goes into the growing problem of migrants crossing from Canada into New Hampshire; and forecasts the 2024 Presidential Race.
At this point in the 21st century, Governor Sununu thinks that State of the Union Addresses still have value, but he dislikes when they become look at what I have done campaign speeches.
The Governor believes that tonight’s speech is a very important part of President Biden’s political future.
“His priority is to convince the rest of the Democratic establishment that he is worthy of a second term.”
Capping the cost of insulin is likely to be a topic discussed by President Biden tonight, but Governor Sununu was quick to point out that New Hampshire and other states have already done that.
Governor Sununu, who is still considering a bid for the presidency, discussed things which could be done to provide healthcare reform and to offer lower pharmaceutical prices by making partnerships with Canadian producers.
In the first quarter of 2023, a record number of about 40,000 migrants crossed the Canadian border, mostly into New York and Vermont. However, migrants from Mexico and Guatemala have also crossed into New Hampshire.
With national attention focused on the southern border and ICE-Immigration and Customs Enforcement stretched beyond its limits, Governor Sununu promises to beef up the local police along the border.

In the last segment of the interview, Governor Sununu discusses whether President Biden should participate in a Democratic Presidential Primary in New Hampshire. Governor Sununu believes that a Democrat challenger might gain momentum by doing well in an unsanctioned primary election in the Granite State.
The Governor also lays out the reasons why New Hampshire, not South Carolina, deserves its place as the first in the nation primary. He also expresses why he feels that the Republicans should go with the best conservative candidate which they can put forward who is not Donald Trump.
