Senator Cory Booker on New Hampshire staying as the First in the Nation Primary: “American culture has had this as the first primary for as long as I can remember. There’s something really special about here. The folks know the traditions and honor them and are really engaged. I was won over by that.”
In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, New Jersey Senator and former 2020 Presidential candidate, Cory Booker, who is campaigning in New Hampshire for Maggie Hassan, discusses the 2022 midterm election; describes a groundswell of enthusiasm for Senator Hassan, which he has felt while stumping with her on the campaign trail; feels that Maggie Hassan deserves credit for reaching across the aisle to get bipartisan support for key legislation; defends the Democratic Party’s record in delivering for working class voters; and speaks in favor of New Hampshire maintaining its place as the First in the Nation Presidential Primary.
Senator Booker questions the accuracy of recent polls which show a surge in support for Republican candidates, and he believes that the enthusiastic and respectful interactions which he and Senator Hassan have experienced while campaigning together is a better indicator of voter preference.
In an age of partisan politics, Senator Booker gives credit to Senator Hassan for her ability to reach across the aisle to get support from Republican Senators for bills like the CHIPS Act, which will boost the domestic production of semiconductors, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.

Despite statements by Senator Bernie Sanders that the Democratic Party is losing support with blue collar workers, Senator Booker feels that kitchen table issues like securing union pension funds, improving veterans’ benefits, and fighting to lower prescription drug costs will convince working families that the Democratic Party deserves their continued backing.
Based on his positive experiences in the Granite State as a Presidential candidate in 2020, Senator Booker is an enthusiastic supporter of New Hampshire maintaining its status as the First in the Nation Presidential Primary.
