Q: Governor Sununu, is living paycheck to paycheck the new normal?

A:  “It’s the new temporary normal. We’re going to hit a recession. People are going to have tighter times. There is a real recession coming. There is no doubt about that. Even the federal government is acknowledging that.”

In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu discusses the finger pointing and the negative tone of political rhetoric today; speculates on why, in a recent poll, that 42% of Granite Staters question the results of the 2020 election; explains why 160 members of the New Hampshire National Guard have been mobilized to assist at the southern border; and cautions people to brace for a recession in our future.

Governor Sununu described a difficult political environment which has Democrats calling Republicans fascists and Republicans calling Democrats socialists. In addition, he accuses cable and network news and other forms of media of exacerbating the problem.

“This is the greatest country on earth, for so many reasons. We could spend all day talking about how America is so great, but we spend 90% of our day trying to fight over who is trying to destroy it.”

A recent St. Anselm’s poll measuring the confidence of New Hampshire residents in the results of the 2020 election had these results: 21.5% believe that the election was stolen; 19.8% were not sure; and 58.6% believe that the election results were legitimate.

Over 42% of Granite Staters still question the results of the 2020 election, and Governor Sununu offers this explanation.

“That is being discussed, as a legitimate argument, on one side or the other, every single night, multiple times, virtually by every single news source for the last two years. . . Therefore, in our minds, there must be some credibility to that.”

Governor Sununu would prefer that there was more focus by the media on important issues like inflation, the national debt, immigration, crime, and fentanyl deaths.

The Biden administration has requested that a dozen states mobilize National Guard Troops to assist at the southern border. Governor Sununu is happy to comply, and about 160 New Hampshire National Guard members will be deployed in a support role on the Mexican border.

In the last segment of the interview, the Governor reacts to reports that, due to rising prices, 60% of Americans are now living paycheck to paycheck. He answers whether this is the new normal and gives a dire warning about the future.

“It’s the new temporary normal. We’re going to hit a recession. People are going to have tighter times. There is a real recession coming. There is no doubt about that. Even the federal government is acknowledging that.”

Governor Sununu cautions that people need to brace for harder times by saving for rainy days and to cut back on discretionary expenses.
