Even if his former boss, Donald Trump, is in the field, Mike Pompeo has left the door open about being a presidential candidate in 2024.
“If Susan (his wife) and I decide that it’s the right place to continue this fight for America, the country that we love, we’ll probably end up doing it sometime the first part of next year. Then, we’ll be making the case all across the country, including the states that start it all like New Hampshire.”
In an interview with New Hampshire Today’s Chris Ryan, Mike Pompeo, who served as Secretary of State and CIA Director for President Trump and is a possible Presidential candidate in 2024, criticizes President Biden’s recent speech in Philadelphia and for comments in an interview on 60 Minutes on Sunday; responds to, potential 2024 Presidential candidate, Florida Governor DeSantis’ flying immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard and Delaware; advises Don Buldoc on how to respond to Maggie Hassan’s campaign being focused on the abortion issue; discusses Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents; and talks about whether Pompeo will run for president in 2024.
Mike Pompeo has a very impressive and varied resume. He graduated first in his class from West Point in 1986, served as a tank commander in Germany from 1986-91, graduated from Harvard Law School in 1994, helped build a successful aero-space company, from 2011-2017 he served as a Congressman from Kansas, CIA Director from 2017-218, and from 2018-2021 our 70th Secretary of State.
Secretary Pompeo was the keynote speaker at the “Politics and Eggs” breakfast at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College on Monday. This speaking series has been an event which attracts and introduces potential presidential candidates to Granite State voters.
In the WGIR interview and at the “Politics and Eggs” breakfast, Pompeo expressed his disapproval of President’s speech on September 1st in Philadelphia in which Biden described supporters of former President Trump as a threat to our democracy.
“We recognize that there are bad guys in the world. But half of the nation are not deplorables, they’re not clinging to their faith and their guns, they’re not semi-fascists. They’re Americans with ideas that are fundamentally different than the ones that he has brought upon the country.”
Secretary Pompeo responded to comments made by President Biden in an interview on Sixty Minutes on Sunday. The Secretary feels that Biden’s declaration that the COVID pandemic is over is inconsistent with his government policies which impose travel restrictions and dismissal of military personnel based on COVID vaccinations.
In regard to Biden’s statement that the United States would commit troops to defend Taiwan if it was attacked by China, which was quickly denied by his staff, Secretary Pompeo said that as a result, we have no idea what the current US policy toward Taiwan actually is.
In contrast, Pompeo would favor giving Taiwan the resources which they need to defend themselves and work with our allies in the region to also provide support. As to dealing with the Chinese government, the Secretary believes we should communicate privately and clearly that an invasion of Taiwan would be unacceptable and costly.
Secretary Pompeo gave support for the attention to the immigration problem which has been highlighted by Florida Governor DeSantis’ flying asylum seekers to Martha’s Vineyard and Delaware. However, the Secretary believes that we shouldn’t lose sight of the need to secure the southern border.
“A little less showmanship and a lot more good outcomes would benefit the American people.”
Mike Pompeo also counseled Don Bolduc and other Republican candidates in the 2022 election on how to handle the abortion issue which has been the focal point of Senator Hassan’s campaign. The Secretary’s advice is to be forthright about being pro-life and to focus on the economic issues which are important to New Hampshire voters.
“Folks are really worried about the fact that they can’t afford to heat their homes this winter, that gasoline is expensive, and that their kids are learning crap in school.”
When asked about President Trump having classified documents at his Mar-A-Lago estate or Hillary Clinton on her server in Chappaqua, Mike Pompeo spoke about the necessity for the proper handling top secret information.
“It’s not about the person. It’s about protecting the information that matters to keep our kids, who signed up to protect America, safe.”
Even if his former boss, Donald Trump is in the field, Secretary Pompeo has left the door open about when he will announce that he is a presidential candidate in 2024.
