When asked if he agrees with Gov. Sununu that Don Bolduc is a “conspiracy candidate”, Gov. Hogan said, “I’ve never met the guy. All I can go by is what I’m reading, and I trust Governor Sununu’s judgement on that. I do think that it’s very important for the voters in the Republican Primary to nominate the candidate who is the strongest possible candidate in November.”

In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, the Republican Governor of Maryland and a potential 2024 presidential candidate, Larry Hogan expresses concern that the Republican party might not gain control of Congress in the 2022 election, especially the New Hampshire US Senate race; evaluates whether this off-year election will be a referendum on the performance of the Democrat Congress and the Biden Administration or whether it will be about Donald Trump; speculates about the field in the 2024 presidential race; and weighs in on the Department of Justice’s investigation of President Trump.

Governor Hogan is concerned that the predictions of a “Red Wave” in November have been considerably downsized.

“I’m concerned that we might blow it and not do as well as we could because sometimes, across the country, we are nominating candidates in the primaries that are not the best possible candidates for the fall.”

Hogan’s principal concern is that despite Joe Biden’s unpopularity too many Republican candidates in senatorial, congressional, and gubernatorial races will not attract enough support from independent voters.

Governor Hogan fears that the Republicans are no longer assured of winning control of the Senate, but he thinks that the GOP will gain control of the House of Representatives but with a smaller than anticipated majority.

Governor Sununu has criticized the frontrunner in the New Hampshire Republican Senatorial Primary, General Don Bolduc as not being a serious candidate--more of a conspiracy candidate.

When he was asked if Don Bolduc, was the kind of candidate who would not appeal to enough swing voters in the general election, Governor Hogan avoided making that assessment.

“I’ve never met the guy. All I can go by is what I’m reading, and I trust Governor Sununu’s judgement on that. I do think that it’s very important for the voters in the Republican Primary to nominate the candidate who is the strongest possible candidate in November.”

As the news cycle centers on the FBI search of Mar-A-Lago and President Biden warns Americans that MAGA Republicans are a threat to democracy, Governor Hogan is hopeful that the 2022 election will not be about Donald Trump.

“We’re spending too much time focused on the previous administration and looking backwards and arguing about 2020 as opposed to looking forward and saying what we’re going to do about the problems facing average Americans.”

As a successful Republican governor in a Democrat dominated state, Larry Hogan is a potential presidential candidate in 2024. He gives a candid estimation of the field which will be jockeying for position after the 2022 election.

Hogan is in favor of a large field of Republican candidates and feels that he and his friend, Governor Sununu, would be in the “other than Trump lane” which would be facing multiple candidates from the “Trump lane”.

“The big gorilla in the room is will Donald Trump be running, and quite frankly, will Joe Biden be running. Nobody really knows what will happen.”

Governor Hogan is taking a wait and see approach to the Department of Justice’s investigation of President Trump. He assumes that they would not have proceeded with a search without probable cause, calls for more transparency from the DOJ, and accepts that President Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence.

“It’s hard to judge the case before they’ve presented the case.”
