Senator Tom Cotton, a possible Republican presidential candidate, goes after the US Attorney General, “Merrick Garland should get off his high horse and understand that it’s his decisions and his actions over the last year and a half that have caused so many people to doubt the integrity and honesty of what he says.”

Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas and possible 2024 presidential candidate, is interviewed by New Hampshire Today's Chris Ryan and Dean Spiliotes, a Political Science professor from Southern New Hampshire University.

In the interview, a variety of topics were discussed: the upcoming Senate and Congressional races in 2022; the integrity of the FBI and Department of Justice, in light of the recent search of President Trump’s home in Mar-A-Lago; and the Senate vote to allow Sweden and Finland to join NATO.

Senator Cotton has been a frequent visitor to the Granite State and will be participating in a fundraiser for the Republican Party in a golf outing in Rye, New Hampshire tomorrow.

Senator Cotton is the junior Senator from Arkansas. He was elected in 2015, and he also served one term in the House of Representatives. Cotton is on the following Senate committees: Judiciary; Intelligence; and Armed Services.

During the interview, Senator Cotton shared that he has been a longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox, and that his affection for the team deepened during his time at Harvard, as an undergraduate and law school student.

After the 9/11 Attack, Tom Cotton left his law practice to enlist in the US Army. He served for five years as an infantry officer in Iraq and Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne, winning a Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and Ranger Tab.

Senator Cotton believes that the Republicans will take control of both houses of Congress this November. He dismisses recent poll results which predict the Democrats will maintain control of the Senate because many Republican state primary races, like New Hampshire’s, have not been held yet.

In his opinion, the winner of the New Hampshire Republican Primary in September will defeat the Democrat incumbent, Senator Maggie Hassan, due to her support of President Biden’s policies.

When evaluating the integrity of the FBI after its search of Mar-A-Lago, Senator Cotton praises the rank-and-file FBI agents, but he is critical of the agency’s leadership, such as the previous Director, Jim Comey, and current Director Christopher Wray.

“At the headquarters level in Washington, there is a strong Democratic bias, as there is in almost every government agency.”

Senator Cotton said this about the Attorney General and the Department of Justice, “Merrick Garland should get off his high horse and understand that it’s his decisions and his actions over the last year and a half that have caused so many people to doubt the integrity and honesty of what he says.”

At this point, the Senator maintains that there is little concrete information about why the search of Trump’s home was conducted, what happened during the search, or what was taken from Mar-A-Lago

In the final segment of the interview, Senator Cotton explains his overwhelming support for adding Sweden and especially, Finland, as members of the NATO alliance.
