On NH Today, Pappas Calls For Nation to Come Together to Address Challenges

In response to all of the bad news, Congressman Pappas calls for unity,

“If we come together as a nation, there isn’t anything that we can’t accomplish as Americans. We’ve got to have that hopefulness as a nation even though we know that there are serious challenges that we have to face down.”

In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan and Stephen Shurtleff, a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, the Representative from New Hampshire’s First Congressional District, Chris Pappas, discusses what steps might be taken by Congress in reaction to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas; addresses how to deal with all of the negative news which surrounds us; and recommends ways to provide mental health and early childhood education programs to prevent another massacre.

Congressman Pappas is hopeful that bipartisan agreement is possible in Congress to prevent another mass shooting like in Buffalo and Texas. He relates that constituents have pressed him to do something.

One of the gun regulation changes, which Congress is considering, is to raise the age requirement to purchase an AR15 or assault weapon from 18 to 21.

To seriously address the problem of shooting incidents, the Congressman favors expanding mental health programs and early childhood education, providing extracurricular activities. He also discussed programs which are coordinated with law enforcement which deal with students who have high ACE-Adverse Childhood Experience scores.

Individuals who score high on the ACE questionnaire should get counseling. The questionnaire measures 10 types of childhood or teen trauma that occurred before age 18, including abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction.

As the seemingly never-ending deluge of bad news about gas prices, shortages, and violence here and abroad pours down on us every day, Congressman Pappas is optimistic that the infrastructure bill, which was passed, and other legislation will improve the economy.

Also, the Congressman calls for an improved sense of national unity.

“If we come together as a nation, there isn’t anything that we can’t accomplish as Americans. We’ve got to have that hopefulness as a nation even though we know that there are serious challenges that we have to face down.”
