On NH Today, Dr. Sherman Explained Reasons For Exploring Run for Governor

Dr. Tom Sherman, possible Democrat candidate for governor, is running because, “Sununu said that he was pro-choice and then he voted in one of the most restrictive and cruel abortion bans in the country.”

In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, Dr. Tom Sherman, a Democrat state senator representing Senate District 24, discusses why he is considering running against Governor Chris Sununu; considers whether he would run if former Governor John Lynch should decide to enter the race; gives reasons why the primary elections should be held earlier; and gives his reasons for running against Governor Sununu.

Dr. Sherman explains why, at this point, he has launched an exploratory committee rather than just throwing his hat in the ring. He is still forming his election team, gauging support for his candidacy, and doing the necessary campaign filing with the state.

Running against a well-known candidate like former Governor John Lynch in a primary election is something Dr. Sherman would like to avoid for several reasons.

Because the primary is held on the first Tuesday in September, Dr. Sherman believes that it doesn’t give a candidate enough time to raise enough funds or reorganize his campaign to fight an incumbent like Chris Sununu.

“I want whoever is running from my side to be really running against the governor, against Sununu, not against each other.”

Dr. Sherman gives several reasons why, in his opinion, Governor Sununu needs to be fired.

“Sununu said that he was pro-choice and then he voted in one of the most restrictive and cruel abortion bans in the country.”

Last summer, as part of the state budget, a law, which was signed by Governor Sununu, was passed. It bans abortions after 24 weeks and requires an ultrasound to be performed.

Dr. Sherman, who is a gastroenterologist, gives his medical opinion that New Hampshire’s anti-abortion law is cruel because it requires an invasive ultrasound. A woman is forced to go full term with a baby which is not going to survive.

Although Governor Sununu is described as being affable by Dr. Sherman, he believes that the Governor has been divisive by signing a law which attacks teachers and our public schools for supposedly promoting “divisive concepts”.

“We’ve got to stop splitting, and the reason we’re splitting is because he (Sununu) is so aligned with this fringe far right.”

Dr. Sherman also believes that Governor Sununu has fallen short on solving the following problems: mental health; substance abuse disorder; and the DCYS-Division for Children, Youth, and Families.
