In a post-COVID economy, Sununu believes that we will thrive if cities and towns work toward building multifamily housing.

“Businesses are moving here. We have the fastest growing economy. We are the only state in the northeast that is growing in population…This will not be sustainable without more housing.”

In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu states that it’s time to end COVID mandates and regulations; outlines how we can move on to living with COVID; talks about how New Hampshire can adapt to a post-COVID economy; declines to comment about threats from former Trump campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski; and reiterates his condemnation of President Trump’s offer to pardon people who participated in the January 6 attack on the Capitol

As other states are gradually lifting mask mandates and other restrictions, Governor Sununu maintains that New Hampshire has been there for a while and rest of the country is just catching up.

The Governor outlines how we will now move into dealing with COVID as an endemic by having plenty of testing available; keeping some money aside from the ARP-American Rescue Plan in case we need to bring in medical teams from other states to deal with a surge; and keeping the necessary mitigation practices ready if they are needed.

To take advantage of this opportunity for growth, the Governor is encouraging towns and businesses to work together to get the necessary zoning changes made to increase housing for the expected influx of workers.

Governor Sununu chuckled when he was told that Corey Lewandowski has been deputized by  President Trump to find a Republican candidate to run against the Governor.

“That’s political theatrics. I don’t pay any attention to that.”

It seems that President Trump was offended because Governor Sununu declined an offer to campaign with the former president and criticized Trump’s offer, if reelected to pardon participants in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Governor Sununu would welcome an endorsement from President Trump, but the Governor took this as an opportunity to reiterate his position on January 6th.

“You assault police officers. You vandalize the Capitol, You threaten the life of the Vice President. There is no pardon there…Those are real serious crimes.”
