Vice President Pence explains why he defied the mob and Trump on Jan. 6th: “I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, and the Constitution is very clear that the role of the Congress is to open and count Electoral votes, no more, no less.”

In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, former Vice President Pence compares and contrasts how a second Trump-Pence term would differ from the current Biden-Harris administration; reflects on his time as the 48th Vice President; considers his role in the events of the January 6th attack on the Capitol; describes his current relationship with President Trump; and states his plans for the future.

Vice President Pence believes that a second Trump-Pence term would have continued the successful policies which were in place. The Vice President contends that government spending would be under control, the border would be secure, and the disastrous evacuation from Afghanistan would have been avoided.

Furthermore, the former Vice President believes that the economy would be experiencing continued, robust growth; inflation would be under control; our energy prices wouldn’t be through the roof; and American foreign policy would project peace through strength.

“In every respect, the Biden Administration has been failing the American people, and I think that is why you have been seeing the tremendous momentum around the country for the Republican cause.”

When he was asked if he had any regrets about his time as Donald Trump’s VP, Mike Pence described his term as the greatest honor of his life, and he went on to list the accomplishments of their time in office.

In a critical portion of the interview, Vice President Pence describes his thoughts and actions on January 6th as the mob was threatening to hang him. The former Vice President explains that he felt an obligation to adhere to his oath to support and defend the Constitution.

At the time there was pressure Mike Pence from President Trump and his supporters to challenge the results. Despite his doubts about the integrity of the 2020 presidential election results, Vice President Pence believed that the Constitutional and traditional role of Congress has always been to only open and count the electoral votes which had been certified by the state legislatures.

Vice President Pence describes his relationship with President Trump since January 6th.

“A few days afterward, we aired it out. We talked through it and finished our work for the American people. We’ve spoken a number of times since we both left office. I don’t know if we’ll ever see eye to eye on that day and on my duties that day.”

In the final segment of the interview, Vice President Pence was asked about his future plans and a possible presidential run.

“The people who know me well know that I’m not a long-term planner. My focus now is on 2022 and reelecting conservatives to the House and Senate and to state houses around the country. After 2022, we’ll see where we’re called.”
