Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would not deny a CNN report that he has told Trump that he is going to run for president in 2024 whether Trump is a candidate or not.
In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan,Mike Pompeo, who served as Secretary of State and CIA Director for President Trump, analyzes Republican victories in yesterday’s elections, especially Glenn Youngkin’s gubernatorial victory in Virginia; discusses his views about school choice; evaluates the role of former President Trump in this and future elections; answers questions about his own presidential ambitions; weighs in on the current situation in Afghanistan; and assesses negotiations being made with China by the Biden Administration.
Secretary Pompeo gives credit to Governor Elect Youngkin’s appeal to parental control of the education system as the main reason for his upset victory over former Governor McAuliffe in the Virginia election.
“McAuliffe ran a campaign that was about Randi Weingarten and the teacher’s union, and Youngkin ran a campaign that was about parents and their children.”
Pompeo is a strong proponent of school choice and commends the legislation which has been passed in New Hampshire which uses taxpayer funds for tuition at private schools, home learning, and other non-public school options.
When he was asked to assess the role of former President Trump in the Virginia race and future Republican campaigns, Mike Pompeo said that Youngkin won because he appealed to the immediate concerns of the voters.
“I campaigned a little bit with Glenn. He was about forward. He was about the future, about things that matter in peoples’ lives in a real way.”
Over the weekend, there was a report on CNN that Secretary Pompeo had told President Trump that he intends to run for president in 2024 whether Trump is a candidate or not.
Mike Pompeo replied, as follows:
“I’m not going to comment on a report of an unnamed source on CNN. I spent four years watching CNN mess up basic facts. My focus today and tomorrow will be on making sure that the success that we had in Virginia on Tuesday of this week is repeated on an important Tuesday a little less than one year from now.”
Former director of the CIA and America’s 70th Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, considers the Biden Administration’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan to be the biggest foreign policy debacle in twenty to forty years.
“I think Afghanistan and the failure to get Americans out is going to be in the hearts and minds of many Americans. They can see clearly that this was incompetence.”
Secretary Pompeo is concerned that the Biden Administration will make a bad trade deal with China in order to get concessions from President Xi Jinping.
“They’re going to sacrifice American security to convince the Chinese to reduce their carbon emissions. First, the Chinese aren’t going to reduce their carbon emissions. They’re just going to lie. Second, that’s not the pressing need when it comes to a regime in China that wants to steal our jobs and steal our way of life.”
