Former National Security Advisor, John Bolton, says about the Afghan withdrawal, “This is Fantasyland! The Taliban don’t care about how they are viewed by the international community! If that’s the leverage that the administration thinks is going to get the Taliban to honor their commitments, we’re in big trouble!”

In an interview with Chris Ryan, former UN Ambassador and National Security Advisor, John Bolton discusses the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Ambassador Bolton doubts that it’s possible that all Americans can be withdrawn before the August 31st deadline; gives some of the details of the Trump Administration’s negotiations with the Taliban; predicts a chaotic future in Afghanistan as the Taliban takes over the country; describes the ramifications of President Biden’s hasty withdrawal; assesses whether President Trump would have handled this situation any better; gives a harsh evaluation of the Biden Administration’s having faith in the good will of the Taliban; couples this deal to withdraw from Afghanistan to President Trump and former Secretary of State Pompeo; and explores the possibility of the US having to invade Afghanistan in the future.

In his opinion, John Bolton believes that the number of Americans is being underestimated because many Americans and many of our Afghan allies are afraid to present themselves to the Taliban troops which surround the airport or are in other parts of the country.

When John Bolton served as National Security Advisor to President Trump, he advised against making a deal with the Taliban, but Trump hoped that making this deal would be a huge publicity event.

“Trump was fixed on getting out. He didn’t care about or understand the details. He just wanted out for political purposes.”

Ambassador Bolton expects that the various factions in the Taliban and the other terrorist groups which have flocked to Afghanistan will probably fight among themselves. There will be chaos which will be followed by an anarchist state where terrorism will flourish.

In addition to overlooking the fact that Afghanistan will again become a terrorist sanctuary state, Ambassador Bolton is concerned about the effects of our botched withdrawal on our adversaries.

“What happens in Pakistan? How do Russia and China react to this? What does Iran do? What does North Korea do? Watching an American failure.”

When he was asked if President Trump would have handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan better than the Biden Administration, John Bolton questions whether it would have been different because, at the time, Trump didn’t seem to be concerned about the consequences, and Ambassador Bolton considers Trump’s recent comments to be merely bluster which cannot be verified.

The Ambassador scoffed at comments by Secretary of State Blinken where he expressed the belief that the Taliban wanted to be recognized by the international community.

“This is Fantasyland! The Taliban don’t care about how they are viewed by the international community! If that’s the leverage that the administration thinks is going to get the Taliban to honor their commitments, we’re in big trouble!”

As former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo comes this weekend to New Hampshire to explore a run for president in 2024, Ambassador Bolton states that Pompeo should share the blame for this ill-advised withdrawal from Afghanistan.

In the conclusion of the interview, Ambassador Bolton predicts that terrorist groups will be free to plan and practice terrorist attacks in Afghanistan; and as a result, American troops will most likely have to return there at a very high price.
