When asked if the Biden Administration had botched the withdrawal from Afghanistan, Senator Hassan said, “I have been critical of this administration and the last administration for setting arbitrary deadlines because I think they move the focus away from the mission and leave us vulnerable.”

In an interview with Chris Ryan, Senator Maggie Hassan voices her concerns about the recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan; expresses her opposition to the administration setting arbitrary dates for withdrawal rather than having military decisions formed by events on the ground; and gives support to the efforts to punish the terrorists responsible for yesterday’s attack and the orderly withdrawal of our military personnel, American citizens, and Afghan allies.

When she was asked if the Biden Administration had botched the withdrawal from Afghanistan, Senator Hassan said, “I have been critical of this administration and the last administration for setting arbitrary deadlines because I think they move the focus away from the mission and leave us vulnerable.”

Senator Hassan rejects the drawing of parallels between the US withdrawal from Vietnam and our withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Senator doesn’t consider it to be a useful exercise.

However, the Senator does call for an investigation of how the situation in Afghanistan deteriorated so quickly, and she wants to examine the events which contributed to yesterday’s attack.

Regardless of our withdrawal from Afghanistan, .Senator Hassan believes that we must stay committed to fighting the war on terrorism.

As the Taliban tightens its grip of control in Afghanistan, Senator Hassan is concerned about the human rights abuses which are likely to occur in the coming months. In particular, she is worried about the plight of the Afghan women who have made so much progress during our twenty-year occupation.
