On NH Today, Sununu Reiterates He Won't Veto Budget Over Late Term Abortion

Governor Sununu on whether he wants some exceptions to the ban on late term abortions, such as rape, incest, or health of the mother or child, “I didn’t write it. I didn’t propose it. I don’t love it, to be sure. I am not going to veto the budget over this.

In an interview with Chris Ryan, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu discusses ending the state of emergency for the COVID pandemic in the Granite State; speaks to those who remain hesitant about getting a COVID vaccination; and clarifies his position on the abortion rider in the proposed budget.

Governor Sununu describes the current status of dealing with the COVID crisis as being at the end of the tunnel. There are no longer weekly COVID press conferences and all of the various federal relief funds are being distributed.

By the end of this month, Governor Sununu was happy to announce that New Hampshire will have over 70% of its population vaccinated. At this point, the Governor is hopeful that those who have been hesitant about being vaccinated might be persuaded by their own healthcare provider in a one-on-one setting.

The Governor accepts that individuals who have a right to not be vaccinated if that is their choice.

There is a provision in the proposed budget which would prohibit late term abortions. which prohibits late has been put into proposed budget. The abortion rider prohibits late term abortions.

When the Governor was asked if he would prefer if there were some exceptions to the ban on late term abortions, such as rape, incest, or health of the mother or child,

“I didn’t write it. I didn’t propose it. I don’t love it, to be sure. I am not going to veto the budget over this. A lot of things in the budget can be made better. A lot of bills are made better when you attempt to fix them down the road.”

Governor Sununu would prefer if the exceptions to the abortion ban were included, and he would like more data to be collected and analyzed to determine how big a problem this is and what the risks are.
