The Press Pass- Is Brad Marchand the NHL's MVP?

Bruins forward Brad Marchand

On this week's edition of "The Press Pass" with Chris Ryan, the Bruins captain, Patrice Bergeron discusses the team’s personality; MVP candidate, Brad Marchand talks about how he has grown as a player during the course of his career; Head Coach Bruce “Butchie” Cassidy assesses the team’s strengths as the Bruins climb in the standings at the end of the regular season; and Jake DeBrusk compares the current team to previous Bruins rosters.

Patrice Bergeron feels that the 2020-2021 Bruins can be defined by their ability to battle through the ups and downs of the long NHL season. Bergeron also gives credit to his teammates for making needed adjustments for a seamless transition when three new players were added at the trade deadline.

As a candidate for the Hart trophy, which is awarded to the NHL’s Most Valuable Player, Brad Marchand reflects on how his understanding of the game has grown over time.

“As you get older, the game slows down for you. You learn where the space is. You get yourself in positions to give yourself more time.”

The Bruins are chasing the Pittsburgh Penguins for the top spot in the Eastern Division of the NHL. Coach Bruce “Butchie” Cassidy discusses the importance of the final games of the regular season and makes a case for Brad Marchand winning the Hart trophy.

“It’s nice to round into a full roster at this time of year. Every time we get a win, we get closer to our goal of making the playoffs and getting as high up in the standings as you can.”

In each aspect of the game, Coach Cassidy breaks down how his team has been playing lately. The Bruins are healthy, playing well, and are deep at each position as the Playoff Season begins.

Forward Jake DeBrusk, who has played left wing for the Bruins since 2017, feels that the current group of forwards is the deepest group with whom he has played. With a great combination of leadership and firepower, DeBrusk likes their chances in the playoffs.
