Chris Ryan: We Aren't Post-Pandemic, But We Totally Are

The public has had enough of COVID-19.

We are 15 months into this thing, and the nation has been split into three groups of differing opinions on the handling of the pandemic, but all can agree on one thing: It's time to move on.

It's time for a hot dog at Fenway, a roller coaster ride at Canobie and a trip up 'The Cog' to the summit of Mt. Washington.

COVID somehow became political, because doesn't everything, but those who are vaccinated are ready to make up for lost time, and the COVID deniers never thought life should've stopped or slowed in the first place.

I've thought a lot during this pandemic about how my kids will remember this time period when they are my age, and I still have no idea.

The definitive event of my teens was 9/11, but that was a singular event with lingering after effects that have societal and political impacts to this day.

This is entirely different and much worse.

A year ago it was apparent that we'd be in a semi-lockdown scenario until the vaccine became available for the masses.

The question was would there be a mission accomplished-esque moment where society would reopen, and the pandemic would be over.

That hasn't happened and, nor is it likely too.

This stage has been just like the beginning and middle.

People are confused about what they should or shouldn't do and why, but they are mentally exhausted with the stagnation in their lives and ready to put COVID in the rearview mirror.
