In an interview with Chris Ryan, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu discusses the new best practices for dealing with COVID 19, which will be in place on May 7; weighs in on President Biden’s proposed $4.1 trillion infrastructure plan; and evaluates how other governors, like Florida’s Governor DeSantis, have handled the COVID pandemic.
As a result of a decline in COVID cases and an increase of vaccinations, the state will be issuing reminders or best practices for keeping healthy—the Governor was very particular about not calling them mandates or directives. Governor Sununu is very optimistic about continued progress in dealing with the pandemic, economically and medically as the warmer weather approaches.
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell recently declared that no Republican senator would vote for the Biden $4.1 trillion infrastructure plan-- $1.8 trillion American Families Plan and the $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan.
Governor Sununu was asked if he were in the US Senate, would he maintain a hard line with his fellow Republicans or seek to compromise with the Democrats. The Governor maintains that Joe Biden and the Democrats are the hardliners.
“This is Joe Biden’s bill. He has made zero attempts to find bipartisanship. They don’t have lines of communication. They don’t answer questions publicly. This is their agenda, and they’re pushing it.”
The Governor went on to point out that the trillions of dollars which have already been allocated in the previous COVID relief bills still hasn’t been used due to a lack of federal spending guidelines.
The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has been singled out for praise, in some circles, for his handling of the COVID pandemic. When he was asked to compare his handling of the pandemic to Governor DeSantis, Governor Sununu was quick to point out that there are too many variables at play when you try to compare how different governors handled the Coronavirus—climate, population density, socio-economic dynamics, etc.
“The governors of each state did a phenomenal job. We all talked and shared ideas on weekly phone calls together.”
In conclusion, Governor Sununu pointed out that New Hampshire put more CARES Act money into businesses than any other state; distributed vaccine faster than any other state; is ranked as the safest state in the country, as it pertains to COVID; and is ranked as one of the strongest economies in the nation.
