The last we saw of Ted "Cancun" Cruz he was wheeling a suitcase the size of a refrigerator through the airport trying to spin his impromptu jaunt south of the border.
But, the Senator is now back focused on issues facing his party, and he has an excellent idea.
No, there is no punchline.
He really does.
“If you look at the CEOs of the Fortune 100, there are very, very few who you could even plausibly characterize as right of center,” Cruz told The Hill.
“They are almost uniformly Democrat. And they have made the decision to enlist their companies in the political agenda of today’s Democratic Party, which is controlled right now by the radical left.”
So, that's not really true, but whatever.
Fortune 100 CEO's job is to accumulate profit and to mobilize and position their brand to do so, that comes before any political ideology, and there lies my point.
Americans see the Top 1% as being aligned with DC against the interests of "Every-day" Americans.
It was a message that brought Bernie Sanders to the cusp of the Democratic nomination as an Independent or Democratic Socialist (twice) and allowed a brash outsider to take over the GOP.
Big ________is out to screw you.
They disagree on the why they are out to screw you and offer various explanations. They also part ways on how to fix it, but that's getting into the weeds.
It's been proven that offering plausible solutions to fix problems is no longer a prerequisite to success at the ballot box.
Examples: Big wall paid for by Mexicans and free everything for everyone paid for by billionaires.
So, what's Ted Cruz's recipe to a GOP comeback? Be the party of working Americans and align Democrats as rich, elite, and out of touch.
The biggest thing they have going for them is there's still really just two choices in national races.
The American attention span is also about the length of a Tik-Tok video, so quick transitions like this are popular, and can also be viewed by the public on a race by race basis.
