New Hampshire Today: Interview with Governor Chris Sununu 3-13-21

In an interview with Chris Ryan, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu responds to President Biden’s assurance that any American over 18 who wants a COVID vaccination can get one by May 1st, discusses the $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill known as the American Rescue Plan, speculates on the future of fiscal conservatism and the Republican Party, and describes how his administration will ease COVID restrictions in the coming months.

Governor Sununu affirms that his team was on schedule to provide vaccinations to everyone over 18 by May 1st, but he cautions everyone that this is contingent upon the Federal government delivering the promised number of vaccinations.

Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently said that the American Rescue Plan would have little effect on the economy. The Governor disputed this assertion by his fellow Republican, “That’s wrong. You can’t put $1.9 trillion into the economy and say that it’s not going to help. It’s going to cause a short-term boom, but then it creates long-term inflation and debt problems that we are going to have.”

The Governor believes the Republicans blew an opportunity to deliver on their promises of fiscal responsibility and healthcare and immigration reform when they controlled the Congress and the Presidency three years ago.

In the last segment of the interview, Governor Sununu goes through how his administration will gradually ease COVID restrictions in the coming months. If the data continues to indicate that the numbers of cases is falling, then more and more restrictions will be lifted. The Governor believes that a national easing of travel restrictions will help to boost the New Hampshire’s tourism industry.
