Actor Julian McMahon, best known for roles the film Fantastic Four and the television dramas Nip/Tuck and Charmed, has died at the age of 56 following a battle with cancer, his wife, Kelly, confirmed in a statement obtained by NBC News on Saturday (July 5).

The actor "died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer," Kelly McMahon said.

"Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans," she added. "His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.

"We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy," she added. "And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories."

The Nip/Tuck Facebook account also confirmed McMahon's death in a post shared on Friday (July 4).

"Warner Bros. Television mourns the loss of our friend Julian McMahon. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and fans," the statement reads.
