Jack Blog - Why Can't More People AGREE our Troops Need our Support?

Following the US Drone strike in Iraq taking out Iranian General Qassem Soleimani I posted a Facebook sentiment that simply said we need to support our Troops and recognize how good they are. What ensued was a viral yelling match between FB users who listen to my morning iHeart radio show about President Trump. Those who like President Trump and those who do not. I chose not to engage and just watched over 48 hours the number of people still posting and fighting over the post. My one and only point was at a time when we are deploying more of our soldiers to the Middle East to support dangerous missions which they execute so well, let's take pause and thank our Troops and send them our Support. Why does that need to evolve into a political food fight? Even Democratic Presidential candidates on my radio show were agreeing Soleimani was a bad guy and the world was better off without him, but because of politics had to say we should not have taken him out. (probably because it is President Trump who ordered the strike.)

Personally I think the President and our Military were right in taking the shot that took out Soleimani and his top deputy in a strategic strike. I also think we were right in taking out the leader of ISIS recently in Syria. Regardless of what I believe or think, why can't we all agree our Military and our Troops need and deserve our support. America is a nation of more than 330 million people and we are defended by a military population of less than 1%. If we want to be free as a nation, we all need to stand behind our Troops. Think of that for a moment. 330 million people, less than 1% serve. Our military does not make or set policy. Our military does not choose the hurricane or natural disaster that hits us or select a target in the Middle East, yet all our military families do is SERVE. They also sacrifice more than 99% of us will ever sacrifice. Imagine being told your were being deployed to Iraq- not for a month, but for 1 year. That is 365 days away from home, from safety and most importantly away from your loved ones. This is time our soldiers and sailors will never get back being away from home, yet we have people who sacrifice so we 99% can go about and live our daily lives.

Too many people are so full of political hate and anger. Too many people are so full of themselves and what they think, they fail to realize there are people who have different thoughts or points of view. Too many view others as being "wrong" or uninformed if they simply have a different point of view. Today sadly so many people who disagree politically cannot even have a civil discussion or debate. While I cannot change how divisive things are today I can ask the question, "How dare anyone politicize our Troops or not thank and support them?" I have been a civilian student at the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA and I saw first-hand how smart and dedicated our modern-day soldiers are. I have met many Veterans who have done 4-5 deployments in the Middle East or Africa in the War on Terror. I am not worthy of being anything but appreciative to these men and women who serve- why can't you?
