Investigation Under Away After Officer-Involved Shooting In Nashua

NASHUA, NH (WBZ-AM) -- New Hampshire State Police and the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened late Tuesday evening injuring one person.

The shooting involving a Nashua Police officer happened around 10 PM in the of Ledge St between 4th Street and 7th Street.

According to the New Hampshire Attorney General's office, officers responded to a residence at 106 Ledge Street for a welfare check. It was there when an officer discharged his firearm which shot and wounded Justin Contreras, 29, of Nashua.  Two other officers from Nashua Police were also in the home at the time.

Contreras was taken to a local hospital and later transported to Mass General Hospital in Boston by Med Flight. According to the Attorney General Office no police officer was physically injured during the incident.

Police remained on the scene overnight. The names of the officers involved in the shooting have not been released pending the conclusion of formal interviews of all three.  According to a statement by the AG's office they say this is expected to occur a the end of the week. 

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is still under investigation.
