Senator Hassan answers Democrats who have criticized her trip to the southern border, “We have to have a secure, orderly, and humane border. . .I want to assess where a wall makes sense.”
In an interview at WGIR with Chris Ryan, Senator Maggie Hassan talks about President Biden’s visit to New Hampshire yesterday; lists what can be done to alleviate the effects of inflation; discusses the Bipartisan Innovation Act; answers those who have criticized her trip to the southern border; and speaks about the Bipartisan STANDUP Act addressing the problem of teenage suicide.
Senator Hassan believes that President Biden’s visit to the Granite State on Tuesday was an important opportunity for everyone to appreciate the positive effects of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.
For instance, this visit provided an opportunity for the President to get feedback about how well the infrastructure bill is working from people like Geno Marconi, the Portsmouth Harbor Port Director, and Ted Kitchens, the Director of the Manchester Airport.
The Senator is concerned about the effects of inflation and is hopeful that improvements in Portsmouth Harbor and other ports in the northeast will clear up supply chain problems which have caused higher prices.
Additionally, Senator Hassan has continued to push for a federal gas tax holiday until the end of 2022, and she has pushed the Biden Administration to release more oil from the strategic oil reserve.
The Senator advocates helping consumers by cutting the costs of prescription drugs and stabilizing the cost of insulin and addressing the supply chain and worker shortage problem. Also, the Bipartisan Innovation Act has been cosponsored by Senator Hassan will stimulate manufacturing in the United States, like semiconductors.
Although she respects the opinion of some Democrats who have been critical of her recent fact-finding trip to the southern border, Senator Hassan says, “We have to have a secure, orderly, and humane border.”
With the Biden Administration getting ready to lift Title 42 which will cause an expected increase in border crossings, Senator Hassan wanted to speak to border enforcement officers and listen to their concerns.
As a result of her conversations and her visit, Senator Hassan has called for more personnel; more technology; and, in some places, more physical barriers. “I want to assess where a wall makes sense.”
Senator Hassan has cosponsored the Suicide Training and Awareness Nationally Delivered for Universal Prevention-STANDUP Act which will require states to implement evidence-based policies and trainings to prevent suicides, including ones to promote youth mental health awareness among schools and communities and improve connections to services for school-age youth.
