In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, Senator Jeanne Shaheen discusses her meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky; assesses the international response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine; evaluates Vladimir Putin’s state of mind; and credits President Biden’s leadership in bringing Europe together in its opposition to Russian aggression.

Several weeks ago, Senator Shaheen was part of a delegation of Senators who met with Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv. She was and is impressed with his ability to unite the people of Ukraine to stand up to Russian aggression.

Senator Shaheen feels that Vladimir Putin has been surprised by the response from the United States our NATO allies. She believes that the sanctions and little things like New Hampshire refusing to buy Russian vodka have shown Putin that the world is opposed to his aggression.

As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Senator Shaheen is privy to many assessments of Vladimir Putin. The Senator describes a dangerous situation with Putin becoming more isolated and that his staff has become reluctant to share their thoughts with the Russian dictator.

Senator Shaheen believes that it was more than circumstances which have united the countries of Europe to stand up to Russia.

The Senator gives credit to the Biden Administration for being transparent and sharing its intelligence about Putin’s plans to invade Ukraine with our allies and with the world.
