On NH Today, Sununu Says Decision on Senate Run in "A few weeks"

Governor Sununu reveals that he is close to making a decision about running for the Senate, “My family is very supportive with whatever I want to do, so I think in the next few weeks—something like that. I am leaning one way.”

In an interview with Chris Ryan, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu discusses the status of the COVID pandemic; explains the benefits of getting a COVID vaccine booster shot; clarifies how the public relations campaign for vaccinations will be funded; and reveals his thoughts about running for the US Senate in 2022.

Governor Sununu is concerned that there may be a surge of COVID cases as we move into the fall. The Delta Variant has been causing a 30% increase in hospitalizations and a doubling in the number of breakthrough cases among vaccinated individuals, especially those who received the Pfizer vaccine.

For that reason, the Governor advises everyone to get their booster shots. The state will be increasing more testing sites, and Governor Sununu will resume having weekly press conferences to discuss how New Hampshire is dealing with the ever-changing dynamics of the COVID pandemic.

Governor Sununu explains the importance of a booster shot whether you received the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“No matter what vaccine you got, you’ve got to get the boosters. It doesn’t just keep up your immunity a little bit. It can boost it twenty times.”

In previous interviews, Governor Sununu has stated that he might decide about his political future by the winter. In today’s interview, he admitted that he has been thinking more about running for Maggie Hassan’s Senate seat, but he says that he probably won’t reveal his decision until November.

“I’ve talked to enough folks. I’ve had enough conversations. My family is very supportive with whatever I want to do, so I think in the next few weeks—something like that. I am leaning one way.”

When he was pressed about which way he was leaning, Governor Sununu said,“I always lean to the right, my friend.”
