In an interview with Chris Ryan, the Chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party, Steve Stepanek discusses the efforts in the New Hampshire House of Representatives to maintain state control of the election process if the For the People Act—HR 1 or SR 1 is passed by the US Congress; calls on Senators Hasan and Shaheen to “stand with New Hampshire”; and responds to recent accusations by President Trump of widespread voter fraud in New Hampshire during the 2020 election.
Steve Stepanek rejects the accusation made by President Trump that there was widespread voter fraud in the Granite State during the 2020 election. He breaks down the many strengths of our election system and how ballots are tabulated accurately and how recounts are done frequently.
The problem with the recount in Windham, NH is being examined and a report should come soon. Steve Stepanek also relates that he has recently spoken to President Trump about the Windham recount issue, apprised him of how elections and recounts are done in New Hampshire, and that there isn’t a voter fraud problem inthe Granite State.
The New Hampshire House Election Law Committee passed a bill by an 11-8 margin, along party lines—11 Republicans to 8 Democrats, to keep New Hampshire’s election system in place for state and county races if Congress enacts the “For the People Act.”
Steve Stepanek explains that the US Constitution gives responsibility for establishing election laws to the state legislatures not the federal government.
Passing the For the People Act, Stepanek will replace local control of federal, state, and local elections with a one size fits all national approach and even threatens New Hampshire’s First in the Nation Presidential Primary.
The House of Representatives barely passed on party lines, the controversial For the People Act, and it is unlikely to get through the Senate. However, Steve Stepanek is calling on Senators Hassan and Shaheen to vote against the bill and to maintain the filibuster rule.
“We are hoping that our federal delegation, Senators Shaheen and Hassan, stand with New Hampshire and New Hampshire values and vote against SR 1. And, more importantly, don’t bend to the radical left which is trying to break the filibuster.”
If the Senate’s filibuster rule is ended, then the For the People could pass by a simple majority rather than by at least 60 votes, as is presently required.
